I am not what happened to me, I am what I choose to become.

The word trauma describes a wide range of experiences. A consistent feature of trauma, however, is the way in which the experience (or experiences) overwhelms the body-mind and how the effects can be felt in present time, even long after the trauma has occurred. Trauma therapy promotes the regulation of emotions, affects, and physical symptoms associated with the trauma, leading to a reduction in anxiety, fear, depression, panic, and many other challenging internal states and symptoms trauma creates. In addition, trauma therapy facilitates the integration of experiences, memories, and feeling states (what is also referred to as “parts of self”) that have been impacted, and frequently dissociated, by living through traumatic experiences. This significantly diminishes the disruptive effects of trauma and fosters a sense of coherence in one’s own self and in the world. Inner World Therapy specializes in providing trauma therapy for adult survivors of childhood/developmental trauma.
